Help empower your community while gaining valuable skills! The Latino Community Association (LCA) Tax Program provides free tax preparation services to low-income, working families and individuals in Central Oregon. As a Tax Preparer Volunteer, you will be responsible for preparing and delivering free tax preparation services using IRS-provided software from January through April 2026. Under the supervision of the Client Services Managers and Coordinators, you will directly support taxpayers from low-income and limited English proficiency communities.
This position requires in-person tax preparation training. Training will begin in January 2026, preparing volunteers to pass the IRS volunteer certification exams. These exams ensure volunteers are equipped to prepare basic tax returns and maintain client confidentiality. Once certified, interns will set a work schedule for the tax season (January - April 2026).
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide free tax preparation services in a compassionate, respectful manner.
- Prepare accurate tax returns using TaxSlayer software.
- Conduct intake interviews to understand clients' tax situations.
- Utilize tax resource materials to research and apply tax laws correctly.
- Share knowledge from tax preparer training to help clients improve their financial situations.
- 3 month minimum.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be 18+ years of age.
- No prior tax knowledge or experience is required.
- Must complete LCA’s Tax Preparer Training and IRS Certification.
- Compassion, patience, and empathy when working with underserved communities.
- Organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and punctual.
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
